Why the “Happie Klamb”?
Husband and I did our undergraduate work at Washington State University. Originally from the Seabeck, WA, this meant long, long, long drives from the Hood Canal to the home of the Cougars. That is 5 ½ hours when we were freshmen and 7 hours when we were seniors. Any who since I had a car, ahem her name is Lola, and we are both from the same area, we usually drove together for spring, summer, thanksgiving and Christmas breaks. Of course we needed some way to pass the time, so we began asking questions. We would alternate asking the most random questions we could think of. It worked out great because John would ask questions like “Boxers or Briefs?” which would then lead us into a whole different ball park of conversation, usually starting with me sassily responding “John, why would you ask me that?” John would then have the most gigantic sneaky smile smeared across his face. Yes, I found his antics quite endearing. Each question both silly and serious allowed us to learn more about each other.
Well during one of our many trips I asked John, “If we were a band what would our name be?” he responded “the Happy Clam, because I’m a Happy Clam with you”. I melted. I melted in to a puddle of happiness and warmth. My heart cheered, "he is happy with me!!!". Looking at him with big lovey blue eyes I said “But we should make it different you know, like, spell ‘Happy’ ‘H-A-P-P-I-E’? and ‘clam’ ‘K-L-A-M-B’” So there it was, our very own band name ‘The Happie Klamb’.
